What is a Bernedoodle?
A Bernedoodle is bred from a Bernese Mountain Dog which are known for their gentle nature and loyalty; and a Standard Poodle which are known for their intelligence and playfulness. Both parents have excellent traits so when combined; a Bernedoodle gives you the best of both breeds.
Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for being an intelligent, easy going dog while also being loyal and affectionate. They have a deep need to please and are quite sensitive while training. Bernese Mountain Dogs have a shorter life expectancy than some other breeds, succumbing to cancer or being affected by hip dysplasia. The Standard Poodle is playful as well as highly intelligent. They also tend to have great personalities and are easily trained. Poodles shed minimally because of their single layer coat of dense, curly fur rather than having a double coat like most other breeds.
Bernedoodles have a longer life expectancy than Bernese Mountain Dogs and thrive interacting with and being around people. Their unique combination of good character, intelligence, goofiness, playfulness and loyalty make them a great family pet.
If you are looking for a good companion/therapy dog, a Bernedoodle will make a great choice. They are wonderful with all ages due to their easy going; gentle nature and they are also easily trained.
Coat types range from wavy to curly. The curlier the coat, the less your dog will shed. Even if the coat is wavy, it will still be classed as low shedding, especially in comparison to a purebred Bernese. Bernedoodles require regular brushing/grooming to keep their coats healthiest. To keep this beautiful coat we recommend your Bernedoodle sees a groomer 3-4 times a year.
